In 1967, when jobs were scarce and with a young family, Richard and Ruth Woroch took a deep breath, and a bold step: they launched a new business, Central Lumber Supply. Their goals were simple: provide a better quality of life for their family by offering an inspired selection and exceptional service as the region’s most respected supplier of high-quality interior doors, trim, and hardware.
In the early days, there was no storefront and no warehouse. Richard and Ruth stored mouldings in their home by passing lengths of trim through their basement window, borrowing garage space from friends, and renting an apple barn. Richard would carefully hand select the best products available, and go out of his way to meet customers where they were, doing whatever he could to support their every need. With his charismatic and generous personality, he easily built great relationships with builders, carpenters, and contractors across Waterloo region.
The company quickly earned a reputation as a reliable, top-quality supplier. In less than a year, Richard and Ruth purchased a site on Waterloo’s new Northfield Drive, changed the name to Northfield Lumber, and built a large warehouse – our home to this day.
Now called Northfield Trim and Door, our business proudly remains family-owned and operated. Richard and Ruth’s children, Jim, Julie, and Rick have assumed ownership and proudly carry on their legacy. Having worked in the business themselves from a young age, it was a natural transition. Every day, with Richard still dropping by, they focus on providing extensive product knowledge, a large selection of quality materials, and expert advice, all with Northfield’s trademark customer service. It is this combination that is hard to find anywhere else.
From renovators to large builders of multi-million-dollar homes, every customer is an important customer at Northfield, and our promise is simple: exceed expectations every day.
To make that commitment:
- It means keeping an eye on trends to ensure a modern selection of doors, trim, millwork, hardware, and columns that put the perfect finishing touch on any project.
- It means building great partnerships with our suppliers to ensure the best pricing, selection, and timing.
- It means having an exceptional staff team that is treated like family with fair compensation and benefits.
- It means doing whatever it takes, whenever it is necessary, to help make each customer’s project easier with honesty, integrity, and kindness.
We genuinely care that everyone we interact with has a positive experience.
It’s Richard and Ruth’s way – the best way – the only way – to run a business.
